PCM encoder with C API

HI,
i have just started to write a sample record program using the oss api.

I know that the recorded buffer will be in raw pcm(if am wrong please do correct).
i want to convert into audible format(open source format). which is best encoder with C API to do that and point me to correct example or links.(i have googled but i dint get any related results).

Ogg is an open source format and you can find libraries that will do the conversion for you (libogg).

libogg is a library for Ogg, which is a media container format.

libvorbis is a library for Vorbis, which is an audio format.
