Audio over Ethernet

Just thought I'd throw this out there while I'm logged in.

Has anyone looked at Audio over Ethernet with regards to OSS?

Or even played with it outside of OSS?

It's making big inroads in the live scene and beginning to be seen in the studio also.
I'm actually surprised it was never used more in the past.

I'm using a system at the moment and getting 40 channels of audio @ 24/96 down one cat5 cable.

While OSS itself doesn't redirect over ethernet, I can think of some ways to accomplish this:
A. Sound servers can carry the sound across the net, pulseaudio is most common, but alternatives also exist (roaraudio, nas, etc.).
B. Redirect the stream output yourself, e.g. using netcat (nc). e.g. ossrecord ${FILE} - | nc ${address:port} , vs nc -l -p {port} | ossplay - , on the other machine.
