We are happy to announce the general beta version of OSS v4.0 (RC2-Build 178) for

Linux (x86/AMD64),
Solaris (x86/AMD64/Sparc),
FreeBSD (x86/AMD64)
SCO OSR6 (x86)
UnixWare7 (x86)

What's new?

- Audio core rewritten to handle more modern kernel interfaces for each of the operating systems

- Virtual Mixer improved to support full duplex

- Support for CMI 8788 Audio device - 192KHz, 32bit, 7.1 channel and MIDI.

- Improved HDaudio (azalia) drivers

- Improved USB audio (Linux and Solaris)

- OS Native installation (RPM/Deb on Linux, PKG format for Solaris/BSD/SCO)

Any chance of a build for 2.4-based kernels? My standard Slackware 11.0 installation has 2.4.33.3 and I'd really like to stick with it if possible.

There are no plans to port OSS v4.0 back to Linux 2.4

Thanks, Dev. On a related note then, are there plans to roll support for Flash 9's ALSA API back into the 3.99 releases? For me, this is the whole crux of the matter - getting audio support for Flash 9.

Yes the plan is to add OSS support to Flash 9.....just don't have the time right now with plans to roll out OSS v4.0 (we're busy with documentation and the next generation virtual mixer)

Hi,


go to

http://www.kaourantin.net/flashplayer/flashsupport.c

and save the file and compile it as follows:
cc -shared -O2 -Wall -Werror -licuuc -lssl flashsupport.c -o libflashsupport.so

then copy libflashsupport.so to /usr/lib

Install Flash 9 Player from:
http://www.adobe.com/go/fp9_update_b2_i ... inuxplugin


Now you can get audio out via the OSS drivers however this support is totally buggy and it doesn't give you proper synch. But you can get some audio.

Unfortunately Adobe hasn't quite understood how to do OSS support so we'll try to provide a better version.

What about MIDI synthesizer?
I'd love to finally see support for emu10k1 SF2 MIDI, or at least software synthesizer working in apps.
